Overview
A 14th-century stepwell hidden two minutes from the glass towers of Connaught Place, down an unmarked lane off Hailey Road. 108 stone steps drop into a cool, echoing dark that most of Delhi has no idea exists. The pigeons, the symmetry and the drop in temperature do something to you.
Go on a weekday morning before the reels crowd arrives. The lower you climb, the colder and quieter it gets - sit on the last dry step and just listen.
